About

Manifesto

Inside the framework of in-vivo, in-silico, in-vitro architecture, the use of computational tools challenge the philosophical concept of  “HomoFaber”  which refers to humans controlling the environment with tools. Architects with no space,  no fixed location, nor country, but with an extreme wish of cultivation of artificial environments for people that had emerged from open platform studies, cloud storage, open-source software and compromised on local materialities and therefore on the tectonics

Cofounders

Effimia Giannopoulou efeminno@faberarium.org Effimia is an architect from Greece with an artistic background and interest in computational design processes and digital fabrication techniques. The main line of her research is to identify correlations between biological paradigms, patterns in nature and geometrical configurations with computational design tools and artificial networks and to rethink design, material and construction techniques in a learning by doing process. She has graduated from the Architectural school, Faculty of Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed the MSc in Biodigital Architecture and phD at the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. She has participated in and organized more than 20 exhibitions and has been co-teacher of international workshops (Digital Futures, Sigradi & eCCaDe conference). She is member of the Genetic Architectures Research Group and Office, and collaborate professor in the International Master in Biodigital Architecture, within the Institute for Biodigital Architecture and Genetics (iBAG, UIC, Barcelona). Currently she dedicates to writing, art/architectural installations and publishing research work and projects.

Pablo Baquero paniba@faberarium.org Pablo is an Architect, Artist and Computational Designer, whose main interest is innovative modelling systems related to emergence and biological procedures in teaching and research fields and on how natural systems and computer simulations areas are conducted to improve architecture of the future. Born in Colombia, he has lived in New York, and now he is living between Barcelona and Greece. He holds a Ph.D. in Genetic Architecture from Esarq, Barcelona, Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design, Columbia University. He studied American Architecture at Cooper Union and Performing Arts at New York University, and has Bachelor of Architecture from U.P.C. Bogota. He has been co-teaching at TU Delft Hyperbody with Nimish Biloria an interactive architecture studio. He has taught with Affonso Orciuoli, Karl Chu and Matias DelCampo at the Biodigital Master, in UIC Barcelona. Additionally, he was co-teaching at Pratt Institute with Peter Macapia and Parsons University with Andrew Macnair and was invited to participate in final reviews as jury critic at GSAPP, Columbia University, Pratt Institute and Parsons University. He has worked on consulting for several Architecture New York Offices, on Emerging Systems using Advanced Fabrication Technologies.

Kalliopi Valsamidou kalliovi@faberarium.org Kalliopi studied Architecture at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed the “Advanced Design Innovation and Transdisciplinary in Architectural Design” Master of Science program at the same University. Her diploma research thesis was on “Swarm intelligence: Coding natural systems into design strategies”. Currently she is finishing the Master degree in Intelligent and Autonomous Systems. Methodologies of Computational Intelligence and Applications. Her main interests focus on the interdisciplinary scientific fields that converge and intertwine programming, artificial intelligence and biology aiming to provide a different approach to architecture. She has gained experience in digital fabrication and interactive architecture by participating in several international workshops and exhibitions.

Stratis Georgiou
stratis@faberarium.org
Stratis Georgiou is an Architect from Greece. After graduating with a Masters in Architecture from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), he pursued a Master’s Degree from The Bartlett School of Architecture in Architectural Design (B-Pro programme), focusing on digital design and robotic fabrication. Stratis had been teaching Grasshopper for fabrication with the team Faberarium and Rhinoceros at the first year students of the Bartlett School of Architecture. Currently, he is directing the Digital Manufacturing Lab of University of East London (UEL) – involving robotics, 3d printing and laser cutting – and teaching Grasshopper and robotics at both UEL and UCL on Open Classes.

Maria Mamoura mamoura.maria@faberarium.org Registered architect in Greece, obtained her Diploma in Architecture from National Technical University of Athens (2007) and holds a Master of Science in Adaptive Architecture and Computation from Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL, 2013). Since 2007, she has a professional experience by collaborating with a variety of architectural firms in Athens in architectural projects, such as residential and commercial projects, from concept to construction and has participated in both greek and international competitions. Member of Technical Chamber of Greece since 2007 and the Architectural Association of Greece, currently she is working as a freelance architect and in parallel her focus is on the use of algorithms and emergent technologies applied in architectural process and design.
